Responsible Travel

Travel by air is carbon intensive. Big Round World recognizes this fact, as do our travelers. In response to inquiries, we have investigated options available for climate action through financing projects whose goals are to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy by providing solutions to lower emissions.

Gold Standard was established in 2003 by WWF and other international NGOs to ensure projects that reduced carbon emissions featured the highest levels of environmental integrity and also contributed to sustainable development.

Gold Standard has issued more than 100 million carbon credits from nearly 700 projects, based in 60+ different countries.

Starting in 2021, working through Gold Standard, Big Round World will support emissions reductions from a variety of certified projects – from clean cooking solutions to renewable energy – reaching all corners of the globe. Our annual purchase of carbon credits is to take accountability for our climate impact as an adventure travel business. We will be starting small, partial accountability, with the goal of achieving full accountability, buying more carbon credits, as our business grows.

Use an online carbon calculator to figure out how many tons* of CO2 are produced through your air travel, and then fund a program that reduces the same amount. These can include forest regeneration, renewable energy, regenerative agriculture, and more.

* Note: Use the option for results in standard pounds/ mile and then divide by 2000 to convert pounds to US tons.
